Amarillo Single Hop IPA

Sticking with the awesome brews. This one from Mikkeller in Denmark. Talk about a hoppy heaven. Yeah~!
So this is a “single hop beer” what does that mean? Well often brewers use a few different kinds of hops in their beer. They might use one for bittering one for a citrus flavour, etc. In a single hop beer you just have 1 kind of hop. In this case. Amarillo hops. Why would you just use one type of hop? Because you can now look and explore what this hop can do, on its own.
The Amarillo Single Hop IPA is bitter but not too harsh. It starts with a grassy hop aroma, not so much citrus or fruit in general. Primarily an earthy grass aroma with a hint of pine. The pine bit is what I think adds the harsh edge here. As you taste it though you realize that it is not all bitter, it is slightly sweet as well. The finish is smooth. dry and has hints of toffee.
The Brew Your Own, hop data sheet lists Amarillo as citrus and floral. I sensed some of the floral here, kinda like wildflowers. Grass and pine was definitely stronger. Interesting. If you are a homebrewer, or just a hophead like me, this data sheet is really handy.
Drinking this beer makes me proud of my danish heritage. Go Denmark!
Very very nice indeed.

Until I got to the end of your blog article, I was totally planning on commenting by saying that no wonder you like it, you’re part Danish!
Sounds like a wonderful beer. Let’s have it whenever I visit!
Love you Sweetie. Praying for you over the weekend.
